Vic Roads Completes Australias Largest Recycling Programme (Feb 1992)

CCA Road Note 35 by Cement and Concrete Association

The Victorian Roads Corporation (VIC ROADS) has recently completed Australia’s largest single road pavemen1 recycling programme. The key process used in the programme was the insitu cement stabilisation of the existing pavement material and bituminous surfacing. Within an annual statewide contract, an area of pavement of 800 000 m+ in a road length of about 120 km was recycled. ExDenditure on the stabilisation was about $3 million, other associated works raised the total programme cost to nearly $4 million. the Drogramme was carried out over 125 separate sections of road and involved 45 MuniciDalities and seven VIC ROADS Regions. This programme was based on the presumption that by Droviding quantity and continuity of work, economies of scale would result in lower costs compared with previous stabilisation projects.
