Paper by MALLAUWARATCHIE JAYAMANNE SENEVIRATNE from ISCR 8th 1998 Lisbon Portugal

In the quest for introducing materials and techniques of construction, the Research & Development Division of the Road Development Authority, Sri Lanka has carried out several trials and successfully constructed an airport apron, a causeway of 2km length using Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) pavements and a road of length 0.265km. This material is being tried out mainly tinder poor snhsnil or poor drainage conditions or in shoulder construction on heavily trafficked roads or in airport aprons. This paper discusses probable uses of RCC for road and airport pavements in the Sri Lankan context. It describes, in detail, the construction of the causeway, airport apron and another road pavement, giving stietigili lest iesulls and a method of construction that could be adopted in Sri Lanka and other similar developing countries in the future
