The Use of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete in Heavy Duty Port Pavements

Paper by VANDEWAUE from ISCR 6th 1990

Recent years have witnessed a considerable growth in importance of heavy duty pavements, mainly because of several major pavement failures in ports leading to serious problems. A recent development took place in the concrete technology and has considerably increased the cost effectiveness and performance of concrete heavy duty pavements making this type of pavement more competitive. The development is the use of steel fibre along with cement, fine and coarse aggregates and water in order to produce a composite material, the so called Steel Fibrous Concrete. Technica! and economical advantages are discussed based on reference projects.
