The Use of By-Product Phosphogypsum with Cement for Soil Stabilization

Paper by OKUCU TURABI DE?IRMENCI from ISCR 9th 2004 Instanbul Turkey

The aim of this research is to improve the properties of the soil by using phosphogypsum with cement stabilizing agent.Phosphogypsum and cement were used with the locally available soils in different portions and Atterberg limits, maximum dry density, optimum moisture content and unconfined compressive strength test were determined. It was found that the addition of phosphogypsum and cement will increase the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of the soils. Significant plasticity index reductions occurred with phosphogypsum plus cement treatment. The industrial waste product phosphogypsum shows potential for the stabilization for certain soil types. The using this waste would be one of many viable answers for handling the phosphogypsum waste problem.
