The Development of Concrete Block Paving for Roads and Other Areas, and Methods of Design and Construction

Paper by DOWSON from ISCR 8th 1998 Lisbon Portugal

This paper shown a variety of methods available for the design of concrete pavements. Each method of design has benefits and disadvantages but none of the design methods actually model paver pavement accurately when subjected to rolling loads. It is important to consider the bedding sand specification and how it affects the performance of the pavement. The different types of failures have been described, although there are other failures, these represent the major reported ones. Failures are generally caused by the incorrect design or faulty construction methods. In most cases, we understand the reason for the failure and this could have been avoided had more care being taken.
