The Brite Project on the Freeze/Thaw Durability of Concrete Block Paving

Paper by HARRISON from ISCR 6th 1990

The prime objective of this programme is to develop an ac-zelerated freeze/thaw performance test that relates reliably tofield performance.Samples of 40 experimental block mixes have been placed onone or more of 5 exposure sites. Data from meteorologicalstations on these sites are being used to model the relationshipbetween ambient conditions and freeze/thaw cycling in concreteblock paving. Historical data will then be used to develop lifetime freeze/thaw regimes for performance testing in a speciallydesigned environmental rig.An extensive laboratory programme has been completed and afew examples of the data are given. Data on the comparison ofcompressive strength methods and aspects of testing are brieflyreported
