Testing of Rut Filling on Concrete Pavements

Paper by STEFFENSEN from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

In 1991 a concrete rut filling on an old concrete pavement at the highway E-1 8 in the southern part of Norway was performed. The rut depth, caused by studded tyres, had reached 23 mm, and the pavement required rehabilitation of the ruts. The intention with the filling was to test the technical and quality aspects of a thin rut filling, with a thickness of 3 cm. A detailed description of the preparations, performance and test results is given. Compressive strength, surface evenness, adherence in situ and noise of rolling wheels were tested. Nearly three years later it was ascertained that no slip between the old pavement and the repair concrete has occured.
