Test Method for the Determination of Wear Resistance of Concrete Pavements – a Ring Analysis of Northic Road Simulators

Paper by HULTQVIST CARLSSON from ISCR 8th 1998 Lisbon Portugal

In the European Committee of Standardization (CEN) road simulators have been proposed as test equipment for determining the wear resistance of concrete road surfaces to studded winter tyres. The purpose of this ring analysis was to find what relationship there is between three Nordic road simulators and to produce proposals for a common method of testing. The results are presented in the form of a relative "SPSp" (specific wear when tested in a road simulator) in accordance with the original proposal for a CEN method. As an alternative, the iesult is also rcportcd with reference to the RWI (Relative Wear Index). Evaluation of the result in accordance with the RWI gives better correlation between the simulators. With this investigation as the basis, a revised LEN method has been developed for testing the wear resistance of euliLlete road surfaces.
