Special High Technology Binding Materials for Stabilization / Solidification of Contaminated Soils

Paper by LIZARRAGA from ISCR 11th 2010 Seville Spain

Inerting of contaminated soils is a processing technique that prevents them from migrating pollutants affecting the environment. It is based on obtaining by mixing soil with special cement based binders, an array of physical and chemical properties that immobilizes the harmful chemicals preventing its bioavailability. As a technique of treatment is very effective and economical. The Group Cementos Portland Valderrivas has studied the current status of this technique and has developed two special binders products and technology application in different soils to be treated. The recovery of soils with mixed contamination of heavy metals, volatile and semivolatile organic compounds in different matrices stabilized / solidified using these new products and application technology opens up new possibilities and are the subject of this communication.
