Some Theoretical and Practical Aspects of the Use of Fly Ash in Lean Concrete

Paper by BOGAERTS VERHASSELT from ISCR 6th 1990

Until a few years ago, interest in the incorporation of fly ash into lean concrete was rather limited. A study conducted in the laboratory has demonstrated some of the advantages of the technique and shown that the optimum dosage is of the order of5 %. In Belgium, mixtures of this type have already been used in road construction. Moreover, a new technique of laying lean concretes has developed with the addition of fly ash: spreading with a slip-form paver and compacting with poker vibrators. Practical experience gained on various construction sites has complemented and confirmed the conclusion drawn from the laboratory study.
