Revision of the Austrian Design Method for Standardised Concrete Pavements

Paper by BLAB LITZKA from ISCR 8th 1998 Lisbon Portugal

The Austrian specification for pavement design also contains standardised construction types for concrete roads. After more than 10 years of experience with the application of these standard pavement types the specification has been revised comprehensively with a special focus on the following objectives: - establishment of an improved method for the assessnient of design traffic based on extensive experimental and theoretical research - extension of the range of standardised pavement types to include pavements made in part of recycled material introduction of a new load class for very heavy traffic situations. The standardised pavements are set out in a matrix-type table showing six traffic load classes and two different construction types for concrete roads. This table is the result of analytical design calculations taking into account traffic, structural and environmental data. The paper presents the design table and describes the methods used in traffic assessment and design calculation.
