Resurfacing Flexible Pavements with Thin Layers of Concrete with Steel Reinforcement

Paper by AUBERT RODO SERRANO from ISCR 6th 1990

This paper describes the studies, reports and experimental sections related to this new type of pavement, not conventional, composed of a thin concrete layer, but with a steel reinforcement, in sufficient quantity to resist the traffic loads. The description goes back to the first studies and tests carried out inthe country, at laboratory scale, following with the construction of experimental sections, at present in service, one of them with a service life of 20 years, in satisfactory conditions, supporting heavy traffic. Next, the performance of the experimental sections is analysed, based on traffic census, core testing, and visual observation, considering that this solution could be a technical option, economically valid for resurfacing flexible pavements in provinces and federal road systems.
