Recent Innovations in the Construction of Concrete Pavements on the Brussels National Airport

Paper by HENDRIKX DENAYER DE PUYSSELEYR from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

At the Brussels National Airport, important expansion works, mainly new taxi-lanes and platforms have been underway since 1989 in accordance with the masterplan "Zaventem 2000". For the new platforms, almost 500.000 m 2 will be paved with a 35 cm thick high quality concrete pavement. By the end of 1993, more than 400.000 m 2 of concrete pavement were completed. Different innovative new construction methods and practices have been present throughout the construction of the pavement, which was placed with two slipform payers in two layers. To protect the pavement against deicing products a special penetrating sealing treatment was applied.
