Overview Of Xxth World Road Congress (Dec 1995)

CCA Road Note 49 by Cement and Concrete Association

About 2700 delegates attended the five-day Congress which consisted of plenary sessions, committee reports and technical tours. The Association’s national infra— structure engineer attended the Congress to assess the relevance of new road technology for Australia. The Congress was organised by PIARC (a more detailed explanation of PIARC can be found in this issue). While World Road Congresses are held only once every four years, the work of Dreparing for them is one of PIARC’s Dermanent activities. Four years are devoted to developing the technical programme for the next Congress. The work of organising a Congress is shared by PIARC and the host country. The Dresenta1ions and technical material were made in three languages (English, French and Spanish), and many people came from European and Asian countries.
