New from Old – Recycling Concrete Pavements

Paper by KRENN STINGLHAMMER from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

About 50% (150 km) nf the ennerete pavement on the motorway Al Vienna-Salzburg are older than 30 years and need reconstruction: The recycling method developed in 1 989/90 is based on the principle of making new from old. The old concrete pavement is used as a quarry and provides the coarse aggregate 4/32 for the bottom layer of the new pavement. The sand 0/4 is added to the old frost blanket which is then stabilized with cement. The method solves environmental problems and offers technical and economic advantages.
