New Developments in Concrete Mix Design

Presentation by David Dash on New Developments in Mix Design from Brisbane Forum 29 April 2009

This forum addressed both concrete road pavements & concrete industrial pavements.

Presentations made addressed concrete mix designs, design & construction aspects, as well as current information about diamond grinding of concrete road pavements in Australia.

New developments in concrete mix design:

• Sands have become finer with a gap between 2.36mm and 4.75mm leading to gap-graded mixes
• Pea gravel not a satisfactory solution as really require a “buck-shot” size
• Manufactured sands are more widely used but workability a problem
• Move to dense graded volumetric design, similar to asphalt
