Measurement and lrnpruveiiieiit of Road Evenness on Concrete Roads

Paper by BENATOV ROCCI SÓNCHOZ SALINERO from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

The evenness of concrete roads is one of the main concerns of this type of pavements in Spain. In the last years many improvements have been achieved in the way of finishing concrete roads. International Roughness Index (IRI) measurements are normally done to evaluate evenness. However, the normal approach used in Spain consisting of discrete evaluations on 100 m sections, pieseuits several inconveniences. A different approrh to ealculate IRI based on a continuous evaluation presents many advantages. This paper describes the new approach, its advantages and a method to precisely define those areas which require surface restoration works, such as diamond grinding.
