Leichhardt Council Reconstructs Balmain Road With Reinforced Concrete (Apr 1979)

CCA Road Note 08 by Cement and Concrete Association

Balmain Road is one of the oldest roads in the Municipality of Leichhardt, about 5 km west of the Central Business District of Sydney. The road provides an important link between Parramatta Road and Victoria Road which are two major arterials. This year, the road was scheduled for reconstruction. After evaluation of alternative pavement types, a rigid concrete pavement was selected to replace the existing flexible pavement. Municipal Engineer, Graham Wilson, cited longer life and lower future maintenance as major reasons for the decision to reconstruct in concrete.
