Paper by DE LARRARD CHANDLER THØGERSEN from ISCR 11th 2010 Seville Spain
This paper presents an on-going, international research project, aimed at demonstrating the valid-ity of an innovative concept of long-life wearing course. The High-Performance Cementitious Mate-rial (HPCM) consists of an ultra-thin, 8 mm layer of Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Mor-tar, in which hard, non-polishing aggregates are embedded. This composite material is applied over a high-modulus asphalt binding course, with the objective of carrying a heavy traffic during several decades, with no maintenance works. Taking into account many laboratory results, ob-tained in a previous phase, preliminary experiments are reported, which should allow the construc-tion of two test sections, respectively in UK and France. Four other countries are engaged in this coordinated effort, with the final objective of producing international recommendations for the suc-cessful placement of HPCM on high-traffic roads.
