Experiences in Local Concrete Road Construction in Poland

Paper by DEJA KIJOWSKI from ISCR 11th 2010 Seville Spain

Polish Cement Association has been promoting roads with concrete pavement for ten-odd years. Providing local authorities with information on advantages of the concrete local roads is a very important field of action. Consistent organisation of conferences and seminars, publication of books and brochures have given measurable effects. In the past ten years a lot of concrete roads were made in Poland. Their overall length is 400 km. This paper presents technological experiences connected with concrete roads construction, beginning with a primary method, such as laying the concrete mix in boarding and consolidation of concrete with vibrating concrete screeds, and ending with modern slipform pavers. The authors present comparative study of concrete and asphalt road construction costs for light traffic typical for local roads.
