Experience with Rolled Concrete For Traffic Areas in the Federal Republic of Germany

Traffic areas are being executed to an increasing degree with roller compacted concrete. This concerns a concrete which is transported with earth-moving equipment, installed and compacted. To gather experience on concrete technology, test fields were laid. Furthermore, within the framework of a quality assurance program, comprehensive tests were performed on the base material, the freshly installed concrete, on test specimens and on samples from the roller compacted concrete surface. When laying the surfaces with surface finishers, average installation capacities of 2.600 m2 per day could be achieved. In the meantime, Philipp Holzmann AG has accumulated experience from the laying of more than 200.000 m2 of road surface. It has been found that the cost-favourable roller compacted concrete solutions meet the technical requirements.
