Environmental Product Declaration of Czech Cement

Paper by ROLLOVA from ISCR 12th 2014 Prague Czech Republic

This paper explains the basic concepts, history of studies and the results of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the Czech Cement and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) of the Czech Cement. The Environmental Product Declaration is based on the method of life cycle assessment, which generally evaluates the impact on the environment from the mining of raw materials to the final disposal of waste, in the case of cement only to the factory gate. LCA is prepared according to the Product Category Rules (PCR). The first sector environmental product declaration in the Czech Republic for construction materials was created for "Czech Cement". The Czech Cement Association, which represents all cement producers in the Czech Republic, decided in 2010 year to create the first LCA study as a basis for the cement sector EPD. The EPD of cement was verified by an independent certification body and published in the EPD database of the Czech Republic. The EPD of cement can be needed for establishing EPD of concrete. EPD of Czech Cement was created with the intention to show the possibilities of cement LCA and EPD to Czech manufacturers and to stimulate their interest in creating their own EPDs for their own products.
