Continously Reinforced Concrete Overlay on Highway E 40 Near Liege Belgium

Paper by LEJEUNE PETIT from ISCR 6th 1990

During the last years, many CRCP overlays have been made in Belgium. One of them has been laid in 1988 on highway E 40 in the province of Liège (8,250 km). The paper gives the reasons of the choice of CRCP for the renewal of the highway and describes the applied techniques. Owing to the steep gradient (0.6 to 5.3OJo) and to heavy traffic, the bituminous pavement of the right lane had to be renewed every year because of rutting. It was then decided to lay a new CRC pavement to definitely put an end to maintenance operations on that section of highway.
