Concrete Pavements in Highway Tunnels

Paper by GSCHWENDT DURIŠOVÁ from ISCR 10th 2006 Brussels Belgium

Since the 2001 were constructed in Slovakia three highway tunnels with cement concrete pavements. This paper presents the Technical recommendation – the concrete pavement design method used for the design and calculation of pavement structures. According the different “climate conditions” in tunnels (concerning temperature gradients in slab), there are in design method modification for short, medium and long tunnels. In the three highway tunnels (4,80 km; 1,40 km and 0,60 km long) are concrete pavements with different structure composition. Construction of two-layer cement concrete pavements with slipform pavers were not without technological problems.
