Adjusting the Moisture Content of Mature Concrete for Durability Control

Paper by KORSHUNOV LANGE from ISCR 8th 1998 Lisbon Portugal

The presence of a specified volume of definite-dispersity air voids in the structure of cement concrete does not quarantee the scaling-resistanceIr concrete pavements under the action of frost and deicing agents. Experiments show that partial drying of mature concrete before its saturation increases the concrete scaling-resistance, while conipleLe dLyirlg up, under the same conditions, decreases it dramatically. The use of the effect obtained makes it possible even to employ low frost-resistant aggregates for the production of concrete of high rLost-resistance in the construction of cement concrete pavements on roads of low category and in the stage construction.
