A New Technique for Preckracking Materials Treated with Hydraulic Binders

Paper by QUERO VERHEE from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

Precracking techniques are used for materials treated with hydraulic binders in order to restrict the effect of shrinkage cracks on the pavement performance. After developing a precracking technique for port platform stwctures in 1984, Via france recently received and developed a new technique for road pavements. This technique applies to the principle of reducing the section of the hydraulic material to define the precracking site. This reduction is obtained by inserting a plastic film. Dedicated equipment has been designed and manufactured, and can execute the precracking task at a rate of one kilometer of pavement per day. Various types of application have been implemented.
