Concrete Pavements: Design; Construct; Maintain; Recycle, & Whole of Life Costing – we hope that our attendees enjoyed this opportunity to engage and understand various SRA’s evolving policy around Sustainable Procurement in Infrastructure for Transport. Good design, construction techniques and material selection are not the only considerations for good concrete pavements. Tools such as EPD’s PCR’s and Whole of Life Costings are hoped to accelerate the uptake of low carbon concrete pavements which contribute to net zero goals and ‘are’ becoming critical factors when imagining the road networks of tomorrow.
Placing the spotlight on the use of different considerations for Decarbonisation and Circularity within the Transport Sector which could shape the future of design and construction, exploring their use, benefits and limitations and environmental impact across their full life cycle.
The forum began with a series of speakers from across the concrete pavement supply chain offering perspectives on life cycle tools, low carbon concretes, transport sector decarbonisation emerging policy goals, pavement designers/ constructors view on these emerging sustainability requirement, then a case study on possible unintended consequences for concrete pavements followed by a panel discussion.
