Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements – from a Classical Conception to An Innovative Structure

Continuously Reinforced Concrete (CRC), invented in the United-States in 1921, has been developing in France since 1983, in the following contexts: - New constructions (50 km of motorway) The structures chosen are alternately: • CRC + lean concrete • CRC + bituminous concrete + stabilized capping layer - Strengthening of existing cement pavements (placed following the 'Californian' technique), after breaking and seating of slabs (300 km of motorway, including rehabilitation of the A6 motorway south of Paris) - Repairing of cement concrete slow lanes (160 km of slow lanes on motorway) In the present paper we will mention two CRC road pavements recently laid down constructed in France: - Bypass east of Muuliiis (Alliei, 03), on a trunk road,... in ordcr to present the art of CRC road construction, - Bypass of Rassats-Favrauds (Angoulême, Charente, 16), on a trunk road ... on which an innovative CRC structure has been tested.
