Paper by HENDRIKX from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria
Conventional concrete safety barriers of the New Jersey type are frequently used in Belgium. At the end of 1993 more than 1600 km had been placed. Slightly higher precast safety barriers connected by a Swedish system have been successfully used especially to separate the traffic during reconstruction works of a motorway. To prevent vehicles from crossing on a bendy and steeply descending motorway, an extra high (1,80 m) barrier was executed. Low truncated New Jersey barriers (40 cm) have been increasingly constructed on major roads in built-up areas where the speed Llimit is 50 or 70 km/h.
