Paper by BAERLAND from ISCR 6th 1990
An accelerated road-wear simulator employed by Norcem for experimental testing of abrasion resistance of highway concrete pavements subjected to heavy traffic by studded tyres was set up at Slemmestad, Norway in 1985. By increasing concrete strength from 50 up to 120 MPa, the abrasion was reduced by roughly 60-70 %. Compared to a con-ventional Ab 16t type of asphalt this represents an increasedservice-life in our country by a factor of approximately 8.Experiments have revealed that further improvement is possibleby using right type of cement, right grading and use of finelycrushed high quality aggregates, use of condensed silicafume, etc.
