This paper will summarize results from a major research project on the repair of jointed concrete pavements in the USA. The study approach involved: (I) a comprehensive evaluation of current and new alternate methods of joint/crack repairs, (2) selection of the most promising techniques, (3) the development of design and construction guidelines and guide specifications, (4) the field testing of each technique at different locations, and (5) the revision of the guidelines to incorporate the field experience. The techniques to be described in this paper include the following: - full depth repair with concrete - partial depth repair for spalis - subsealing and void detection - diamond grinding - resealing of transverse joints - improvement of edge support through tied concrete shoulders - restoration of load transfer at joints and cracks In addition to a description of the techniques, a section on selecting the most cost effective techniques through appropriate evaluation of the pavement is included.
