Urban and Pen-Urban Porous Pavements

Paper by CHRISTORY from ISCR 7th 1994 Vienna Austria

The control of disturbances (noise, flooding, runoff water pollution, etc.) nowadays constitutes a major preoccupation of local populations. The roadway, in the diversity of the functions it performs in the urban and pen-urban scctor, can contnibutc activcly to the control of such disturbances. Porous pavements constitute a valuable area of investigation because this concept makes it possible to act simultaneous on all the components of these disturbances while performing the basic functions of durability, comfort and safety. A classification of porous pavements is proposed in which cement concrete can enjoy a favourable position in the pursual of the promising experiments described in the paper.
