Full Width Paving – joint induction investigation

Presentation by Jamie Egan on Full Width Concrete Paving from Sydney Forum May 2012

Jamie Egan presents on full width concrete paving - specifically investigating the induction of crack/joint at the P1 location.

The study follows two trials as part of the Hume Highway Southern and Woomargama Alliances.

A range of investigation techniques have been used to assess the success of crack propagation at the P1 location:

  • Visual inspection - high res photos
  • MIRA ultrasonic tomography
  • Spectral analysis of surface waves
  • Pavement cores

MIRA was found to be highly effective for investigations. SASW was generally acceptable, but more variable than MIRA. Cores were taken to confirm the results of the non destructive testing.
