Concrete Curling in Slabs on Ground

Presentation on Concrete Curling in Slabs on Ground from Brisbane Forum May 2012

A presentation is provided covering the topic of curling of slabs on ground, with a particular focus on jointing and reducing risk of unplanned cracking.

An argument is presented that current industrial codes allow for consideration of design for loads (slab thickness design) and design for shrinkage (jointing system design) but not for curling stresses.

Examples are provided of curling stress calculations in slabs of different dimensions, with a proposals to reduce overall slab dimensions and induce joints with an innovative mechanical cracking machine.
