Slump Testing – benefits, techniques & limitations

Presentation by Geoff Ayton & Bob English from Sydney Forum 06 May 2019

This presentation reviews the purposes of the slump test. It notes that it is:

  • an indicator of uniformity in batching and mixing operations
  • indicator of workability
  • to show correspondence with the Laboratory trial mix (ahead of 28D cylinders)
  • indicator of water/cement ratio, and hence of:
    • durability potential (depending on curing etc)
    • strength

It reviews W/C and durabilty, curing time, impermeability, cover, strength & compaction impacts
